SUMMER BOND - NOT ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN GRADUATION CEREMONY AT HICKORY RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL CEREMONY AT HICKORY RIDGE HIGH SCHOOL  Ken Harris & Associates represents Ms. Summer Bond. As many are aware, Summer was previously advised that she would be excluded from the upcoming Hickory Ridge School graduation. Initially, a level 1 grievance was filed with Hickory Ridge. On June 2, 2017, that grievance was denied. Subsequently, on June 6, 2017, our Firm filed a Level 2 grievance requesting that Summer’s 10 day suspension be expunged and that she be allowed to participate in the Hickory Ridge Graduation ceremony. The Level 2 grievance was presented to the Superintendent of Cabarrus County Schools. As of  Friday  afternoon at  5:00pm  no ruling had been made concerning the Level 2 grievance. It is our un...

A Student Says She Was Intimidated By Her School For Breaking Dress Code A North Carolina high school student has hired an attorney to help her challenge a 10-day suspension and a ban from walking at graduation after she says she was isolated and intimidated by school officials for violating the dress code. Summer Bond, a senior at Hickory Ridge High School, in Harrisburg, was wearing a green shirt last week that showed a portion of her shoulders and her back, when the school’s principal, Michelle Cline, approached her to warn that the shirt was a possible dress code violation, attorney Ken Harris, who is representing Bond, told BuzzFeed News. Bond’s friend then gave her a jacket which she zipped-up over her green shirt. “Students typically have the right or ability to comply concerning any violations of the dress code,” Harris said to BuzzFeed News. “And if they comply, there typically would be no punishment.” BuzzFeed News reached out multiple times to school officials ...
